Looking for help.
I have been asked to create “Race Timing Troubleshoot Manual” for my new colleagues (beginners) and volunteers so that they can easily operate timing and solve occurred problems – fast and effectively. In my case, I spent more than one year with learning, testing and trying “basic stuff” till I was able to say to my “Teacher and Introducer to the Timing World” that “I can do it by myself” – and after few years I am still learning and learning. Because with the solving a timing problems it is not always a wiring set-up issue, It can be – wind, heavy snow, wet snow, water, dust, public on the course, unleashed dog running through the finish, ripped flagging tape giving false finish signals…. I will appreciate if you can provide me with your opinion/experience or materials (I found some information about Timing clinics) what you think is “basic knowledge” to successfully operate timing equipment and which information you will or you won’t provide (professional - trade secret) to your “beginner helpers”. Thanks for any advice deuce |

Last year one of our guys put together just such a reference book. He spent an incredible amount of time on the basics - syncs, setting up start & finish, hand timing, problem solving, etc. Problem is, it's very specific to our equipment and the wiring issues we encounter at other mountains where we time. Would be happy to share it, but probably only 1/4 of it could be considerd universal.

Thank you very much Bill,
it will be a great help to see them even if they can not be 100% applied to our conditions, at least it will give me an idea about a structure and example which I could follow. My E mail is duskaf20@hotmail.com Thanks again duece |

I assume that you've looked at the FIS timing book available on the FIS website as well as the TC study guide and various other things on the USSA web site.
