We are buying a new computer for our Alpine Ski Racing.
In the past we have used external monitors because the conditions are almost always too bright for a notebook screen. Sometimes they're even too bright for a normal CRT monitor. We are looking at a Flat Panel monitor, for its space-saving. In bright environments, do they function as well as a CRT or are they as problematic as a normal laptop screen? ======================== Mike MacKay DataCat! All LCD screens behave the same.
We use the Hoodman E2000 for our notebooks. I have not used our 18" stand alone monitors outside yet. I will probably get a bigger Hoodman to try with that. Beats the cardboard box look! http://www.hoodmanusa.com/ |

Hoodman looks like the ticket! I am very attached to my water bottle box but may have to trade it in on the Hoodman! Thanks Fred

I had to ask. Looking at the newer LCDs, they SEEM brighter. We're really cramped in all of our huts, so I guess we'll go with the Flat Panel and get the Hoodman, too.
The Hoodman probably will stand up to a little more abuse that the score sheets and masking tape that we have used. Thanks for the input. Mike |

Sorry for being snobby. I just don't have any experience with anything but high output XVGA or better active matrix screens since 1997.

i have to agree with Fred. Even newer active matirx lcd's are tough to see anywhere where outside light will be an issue. Hoodmanusa.com is the way to go.
