We have recently purchased a nice reasonable sized battery pack with built in charger. The 12 pound "Mity Mite" is designed for jump starting a car but looks like it can be really useful for timing applications. The unit has a cigerette lighter socket and battery clamps to attach to a car battery. It has a built in charger that connects to any extension cord.
