Hi members,
Recently I noticed that the Individual Time Trial in 2010 World Championship in Geelong were using Transponder timing system. Can anyone brief us how the riders timing were recorded. How the set-up was done? Does the photocell systems were also used for that event ( mixed set-up or really depend on the transponder ? ) What is the best timing system for ITT event including Downhill event's as I've also noticed that UCI World Cup DH also using the transponder ? Is it reliable system ? Thanks so much. |

Yes they used transponders for the unofficial results that were then verified/modified by the photofinish.
http://www.sportresult.com/spo...CH2010/index0001.asp The interesting question is whether they used a "rolling" start or a photocell/ tapeswitch start. There is quite a difference obviously in an antenna loop installed at the bottom of the ramp and a photocell at the top. |

Just for your information...
for TimeTrials they use contact stripes for start and finish. this is the only way to get accurate times in cycling road or cycling track events. For intermediate timing point they often use transponders - not that accurate but faster. Transponder are also used to identify cyclers cycling in groups or for faster analysis for TV graphics |
