Strike time was about 2:45 this year and there were doughnuts for the crew after.

A few questions:

1) What kind of transponders and decoders were used, and what (if any) problems did you experience with missed passings / dead transponders?

2) How did you deploy the decoder antenna - did you cut it into the snow with a chain saw?

3) How come you threw a plastic bag over the Lynx instead of using one of those nifty plexiglass weather housings by TheTimingGuys?

We will have to let George respond to the trasponder issues as well as the choice of weather protection as he was the timing contractor. I can tell you that the finish line antenna was deployed by cutting the snow with a chainsaw as you describe. I did much of the cutting.

Hey James. The AMB ACTIV worked well at KOM. No dead or dying TX's as the ones used were yellowbacks. John and Sean wielded their manly chainsaw and shovels in order to bury the loop under 14 inches of Tellurides finest.

The Lynx was used to verify the TX accuracy on the KOM differential format. The accuracy was very impressive as the AMB measured differential was always very closely matched by the Lynx result. The differences were within a hundredth or two and most of the time within thousandths of a second. The differences could be attributed to body position upon crossing and where the TX was placed on the leg. As you know this is similar to how a person's body crosses through photo-cells as they dive for the line.

The missing nifty plexiglass cover? $ 350 for Fred's model or free from the produce department at Spaceway? You do the math! Also flying with that contraption these days is such a hassle and expense...of course I could wear it on my head and call it a hat. JK.

George makes a good point. We actually chopped down the size of the cover after the first time we flew with it. A table saw with a good blade will let you customize your plexglass cover to the size that you like.

Record Timing has 6 of them in use right now. We had good success with them at the Tour of California as well.
