| A lot of jaws have been dropping at the sight of Kitzbühel's imaginative, modernistic take on FIS's tired old start facade design. A fiberglass tunnel extends over 4 meters outside the building, with foam-core "tombstones" displaying sponsorship and custom steel start posts (with internal cable routing) bolted right through the floor. As we've done for previous years, a custom ALGE start gate is bolted directly to the posts through machined / tapped bolt holes in the steel posts (no chain required). FIS has steadily eroded away the fans' view of the athlete preparing to start for years, and now the KSC and Audi have reversed that trend with dramatic flair. Only 4 people will be allowed into the tunnel - our starter, the start referee, the racer, and one coach. |
