The Split Second DOS software uses a bidirectional cable to communicate to the PC through serial port 1 (COM 1). This cable also allows you to connect a display board to the PC using the same port. The baud rate of the timer and the display MUST be the same. For this reason, the Split Second software has a feature to force the S4 to transmit at 2400 baud rather than the native 4800 baud. This force doesn't usually stick and you are obligated to reforce it between runs. I recommend that you upgrade your software to to a Windows package at once. Modern computers do not like running DOS programs and I am sure that Split Second does not like supporting them either.
