We have been trying to get our Alge S3 to work with the Split Second v2.04 software. When I do the setup and testing, the software reads the clock time when I look at the raw data window. However, when I go to the timing mode, it doesn't start the racer. I read your replies to similar problems in the split second forum, but I really didn't see a solution there.
Thanks for your help. Dan Ps. Our S3 is about 20 years old but it works fine. Would that have anything to do with it? Originally posted 7 feb 2001 by Dan Frank dfrank@skiwindham.com |

Dan,
I am currently at the ALGE factory so I might be able to help from here. The age of the s3 is probably not the issue. Please try plugging the data cable into the printer port instead of the scoreboard. Make sure you follow the various postings here on setup etc. Use the latest version 2.06 and reinstall it from scratch. I saw an instance last month where just reinstalling an old version made it work. Unscrew the two screws holding the top on and pull off the lid. Tell me what the eprom version is on the chip located just to the right of the lcd and behind the face plate. Originally posted 8 Feb 2001 by Fred Patton |

Fred,
Thanks for your reply. I tried the data cable in both ports; I also reversed it to make sure that I had it in the right way. Before I contacted you, I read all of the applicable messages on the forums both here and at split second. Nothing seems to work. When viewing the raw data box on the setup page, though, I do note that it is receiving the proper signals. That leads me to conclude that it must be a software glitch rather than a hardware problem unless the software is looking for some other signal that it is not getting. I tried loading v2.06 from split second but I did not remove 2.04 first. I also removed the top per your instructions. Looking at the unit from the front, there are three chips directly to the right of the LCD. The first measures approximately 1/2" X 2" and has no markings on it. The next one to the right measures about 1/4" X 1" and has no markings either. The last one measures 1/2" X 1". It has a piece of masking like tape on it with hand writing on it that says "timer s3" and the number either "1461" or "7461". Hope this helps. Dan |

Dan,
Your timer is REALLY old. I regret that I was not able to respond while in Europe. The safest thing is to send the timer down here and we will swap eproms until we get one to work with the SST software. Trading in the S3 is another idea. We have a great selection of shiny S4 timers in stock. Originally posted 15 Feb 2001 by Fred Patton |
