We just Finished Timing our First TWO races using the TDC8001 running into Split Second software.

On Two Racers we had multiple inputs..
The TDC8001 put it's question mark on the 2nd impulse and calculated using the first time.

Split Second was different. when we looked into it... SS had recorded the SECOND impulse... these were .2 and .4 seconds different.

My belief is that the FIRST impulse IS the one to use... But WHY did SS take the 2nd.

Also.. looking at the hand times -- they were closer to the 2nd impulse.

BackUp system... with new timer person was closer to 2nd impulse for one racer.

Are you using a auto return wand or manual? Sometimes the auto return gates have a bounce and that will produce two starts about the diff you describe. SST software has a delay setting that will ignore a second impulse if received in the listed delay time. As for the software grabbing the second time that is very strange. Print out the SST timing log and tdc tape and look closely. Are you sure that the later TOD start time is logged in the software?

Yes John, I had that competitor open and the time in there for start time was the one with the question mark.

Wand is one that we have to reach out and manually close.

This is weird. I think that something funky is gong on. What was the delay in Split Second set to? This scenario doesn't make sense. Can you fax me a copy of the tapes and e-mail me the SSS XML file with all the data?

Have you had a chance to review the tape or file? Any answers to this?
Were the hand times for racers close to this one dead on, or consistently off? Hand times don't lie, but sometimes people, usually at the finish, are not located for the best view of the finish line. What they then see has a consistent error.

Sorry, this past weekend we had 3 days of Eastern Cups... and NO chance to gather the tapes or get near the RAs laptop. Hand times were very close to the first impulse received. Fred Patton sent us a 2nd TDC8001 which we did use this past weekend, with NO problems.

We also tried to use the first system, but were receiving multiple impulses when we did our Sync. had to take it out and put old back-up in. Think machine just had an issue.

Very happy with the ALge TDC8001 talking to Split Second. I ran both and it was not a struggle or problem.

Ken, a couple more questions.
Were you using the start line for communications from the starter to the 8001? If you were, did you hear any noise on the line If you were not, I suggest you plug a headset into the 8001 and listen to the line. Or, if you have an isolator going to the 8001, plug a speech amplifier and headset into the line and listen to it. Did you only have the problem when the 8001 was connected to the computer? Did you use the same circuits with the new 8001?

Jim, We have a seperate line for the headsets, and I have NOT had a headset plugged in to the ALGE... good idea. NO isolators on the lines... the old Longines weren't that sensitive. The NEW ALGE is connected to the same line... and NO problems at the last 3 races. and we only had TWO instances with this... and they happened within about 20 racers. ?? We have run the ALGE into Split Second almost exclusively. the old laptop we were using died during one race, and they just picked up with the ALGE... tho the scoreboard didn't work.

Ken, will you be there this Sunday for the college race? I will be also, and, perhaps, we can discuss this some more. Can't be there on Saturday because I am doing the Tecnica race.
