Can I hook up the DPU414 printer to the USB port on my laptop? What cables will I need or can we run it of the printer port?

Your best bet is to use a pcmcia serial card to add the extra serial port. This is the most reliable method. You can try a usb to serial adapter and run the printer with that method but I can't guarantee it will work properly. In theory it should work fine.

Jim: Set everything up last night running of the usb port. I got it to print but it was printing the raw data screen and not the timing log. I talked to Elder and he was surprised so I think there might be a problem in the soft ware. Any suggestions?

Think your right! Geoff created a version a while back that saved the "raw" timing log to help track problems with missing impulses and somehow it sounds like it is sending that file to the port instead of the "timing log". If that is the problem, the only solution is to wait for the fix. If it is a non-nastar race, like High school, use Fred's Fiddleware and you can have the datalog working (don't forget to config the baud rate settings for the printer). Fred's Fiddleware works great with USB (32bit program).

Jim: I tried everything and still no luck. I should be able to hook up the printer to com 3 which is my usb port and have it work. The printer is printing question marks so something is not right. Hopefully Geoff will come up with a solution.

Jim: It is amazing what you can learn from reading a book. I reset the baud rate on the printer to 9600 and everything is working great. Thanks for your help and it was a pleasure talking to you this evening.
