Whats the experience of electronic starting guns? I'm tired of clicking and starters foregetting the mic in their pocket. I want at electronic starting gun that works with the wireless Radio Lynx interface. Where can I find this and what should I think about?
Swimming has integrated P.A. start systems that connect to normally open transducers that are less expensive than the electronic gun sold by Lynx (SEIKO). I bought a cheep stand alone swim start gun that only did a beep but did have internal contacts. It did not make enough noise and needed to have the mike brought up to its speaker just after the "set" command. I only use it with little kid meets.
To help with making it easier for the starter with a normal start pistol, I put the entire transmitter, wire and transducer into a pencil case sized bag with a loop for the starter to hold with the gun hand. It also acts as rain protection.
Is this the gun you have used http://www.gillathletics.com/s...product.aspx?id=1092 Does it have a start signal trigger output or is there only the audio output? Would be nice to get rid of the mic and have it direct coupled.
I contacted the company about that start device. It does not have direct contacts, to use it with a start transducer you put the transducer near the speaker and hope that the sound is loud enough to set off the system. They said that in the next version of the gun they are likely to have a port to plug in the start system into.
look at Daktronics -OmnispOrtĀ® Hs-200 HOrn/gun and public address system. Also check the Colorado Time Systems-Infinity Start System
I agree that the Finish Lynx start system is one of the best, It uses the same hand set as the Seiko/ Nishi that get used at the IAAF world meets and has really good tone for the verbal commands and a great gun tone, But it is also 50% to 100% more expensive than the Infinity swim start system.
We had the Finish Lynx starting system delivered (Seiko gun with megaphone) and had our first event indoor with it this weekend, it worked flawless. The athletes first said that it maked a different sound than a gun but there were no problems. One thing that might cause problems is the the volume is quite low and probably too low for outdoor use in 400m events.
Good to hear that the Lynx system works well for you. If memory serves there is also a line out from the megaphone that allows a second PA to be linked to the first to give extra volume for 400m and 4x400m starts.
